St. Thomas’s Cathedral’s Sunday School (English session) held its annual Children Christmas Party on 10th December 2016, Saturday from 2.00pm to 5.00pm in the Parish Hall. The theme of the celebration is “Jesus Is My Shepherd”.

Over 70 children aged between 3 to 12 years old registered for the event.  The party was delayed due to the heavy rain. By 2.30pm, with almost 80% of the children in the hall, the party started with a welcome remarks by teacher Natalie, followed with opening prayer by Rev’d Fr. Doyle Owen Lacasse.

Instead of the usual children zumba to high paced Christmas songs, the organising committee decided to go back to the old fashion way of singing carols. The Brigades under Captain Avril Soon agreed to lead the children and parents in singing old but old time favourite Christmas carols.

Teacher Caroline then, shared on the theme “Jesus is my shepherd”, focusing on the role of the shepherd and Jesus in our lives. The children were asked to look around as the hall was all decorated with lambs to suit the theme chosen. The children were also given custom made towels with this theme and a lamb printed. Christmas candy (The shepherd’s staff) were also distributed to the children and parents

By 3pm, the children were ready and excited for the games organised. The 70 children were distributed into 7 groups with guidance from the youths and parents managed to play all the 8 games available. The last game was on decorating a mural of the shepherd and his sheep.

High tea was served after the games at 4.15pm with the children enjoying BBQ chicken wings, sandwiches, nuggets and cupcakes. There were plenty of food to go around as additional delicacies were brought from the respective parents. Parents also enjoyed a time of fellowship among each other over kuih and cakes.

Before the party ended with the distribution of prizes for games and Christmas presents by Sunday School Chaplain, Canon Gregory Chambers, Natalie led a prayer for the teachers in Sunday School. Together they prayed for the Sunday school teachers as they serve in the children’s ministry, for teacher Maria who is unwell and recovering, for teacher Margarete who has retired in December  2016 and welcoming two new teachers Teacher Jennifer Chow and Teacher Grace in the 8.15am session. They also prayed for parents as they lead the children and their families in their walk with Jesus.

The party ended at 5.10pm with closing prayer by Canon Gregory and everyone moving around wishing each other Merry Christmas.
