St. Thomas’ Cathedral celebrated Good Friday on 14th April 2017. Thousands of parishioners thronged the church to participate in the services during the day.
Good Friday reminds us of the crucifixion of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God in obedience to his father’s will.Through believing in Jesus, forgiveness of sins is made available and a new way of life is open to all for the taking. It is a day of meditation on the wonder of God’s love. The services for this day are designed to help us to understand more fully the meaning of the Cross.
Special services started at 6.45 am with Morning Prayer, Litany and Sermon. This was followed by the Veneration of the Cross. The 8.15am service started with readings from the Old Testament, Epistle and the Passion Gospel with sermon. The Veneration of the Cross followed immediately. The Service in Mandarin started at 10.00am.
This was followed by the Stations of the Cross, a ceremony to remember Jesus’ final hour right up to his crucifixion and burial, which began at 12:00 noon. The ceremony for the Station of the Cross was led by the Dean, the Very Rev’d Michael Buma Galami. The crowd was amazingly huge, braving the heat, walking and praying through the 14 stations located at the Cathedral compound.
