St. Thomas’s Cathedral ushered in the year 2014 with the dedication of a new Anglican Centre to serve the Chinese speaking congregation in the Sungai Maong Baru area.
Located at the new shoplot next to the MJC Government Clinic, the 3-storey shoplot was blessed by the Archbishop of Province of the Anglican Church in South East Asia, the Most Revd. Datuk Bolly Lapok, who was accompanied by his wife Datin Mary Jean.
On hand to receive his Grace was the Dean, the Very Rev’d Michael Buma Galami, Clergy-in-charge of Chinese speaking members, Father Kho Tong Meng, other Clergy, PCC members, Chinese Speaking Lay leaders from St. Thomas’s Cathedral and the Chinese Speaking Lay Leaders and members from St. Basil’as Church, Batu Kawa.
The Dedication ceremony started at 10.00am at the Ground Floor where the Archbishop together with his attendants stood outside the door. A hymn “To God Be The Glory” was sang, followed by a prayer before his Grace sprinkled the entrance of the Centre with Holy Water.
The Archbishop then proceeded to the 1st Floor, entered the hall and gave his blessing. Subsequently the Dean read the Holy Gospel according to St. Matthew 7:24-27, followed by the lighting of the candle and reciting the prayer together with all those present by his Grace. Then the Archbishop sprinkled the Hall with Holy Water.
The Archbishop then proceeded to the 2nd floor, blessed the office and all the rooms before returning to the Hall. The Lord’s prayer was then recited. The hymn “The Church’s One Foundation” was sung by all and then the Archbishop blessed the attendants.
When the ritual of the dedication was completed, the Dean invited his Grace for his exhortation.
In closing, the Dean invited all to a sumptuous lunch, who then invited Fr. Kho to say the grace in Mandarin.
