St. Thomas’ Cathedral celebrated Christmas with the theme from Scriptures in Isaiah 9.6 “FOR UNTO US A CHILD IS BORN. TO US A SON IS GIVEN AND THE GOVERNMENT WILL BE ON HIS SHOULDERS. AND HE WILL BE CALLED WONDERFUL COUNSELLOR, MIGHTY GOD, EVERLASTING FATHER, PRINCE OF PEACE’.
On Christmas Eve, the celebration began with a special instrumental presentation by the Parish Youth Fellowship from 7.45pm to 8.15pm, 24th December 2015. This was followed by Solemn Liturgy at 9pm with a Procession led by the Archbishop of the Province of South East Asia, the Most Reverend Datuk Bolly Lapok and the Dean of the Cathedral, the Very Reverend Michael Buma Galami. The procession paused half way for the Blessing of the Crib.
Over two (2) thousand parishioners thronged the church and tents were set up at both sides of the church. So many members could only sat in the Parish Hall. The weather was very good throughout the service. Praise be to God. The service ended with Christmas Hymns and songs presented by the Choir to the applause of the parishioners.
On Christmas Day, 25th December 2015, the Holy Communion Service started at 6.30am with Hymns in English. The service was conducted by the Rev’d Canon Gregory Chambers and the Asst. Bishop, the Right Rev’d Aeries Sumping Jingan preached on the Gospel according to St. Luke ch.2 vr.1-14.
The second English service began at 8.15am and was conducted by the Dean, the Very Rev’d Michael Buma Galami. The Asst. Bishop, the Right Rev’d Aeries Sumping Jingan, for the second time, preached on the Gospel according to St. John ch.1 Vr. 1-14.
After the service, the Cathedral Clergy invited the Parishioners to a Combined Open House at the Parish Hall at 10.00am. Hundreds of parishioners attended the open house with many sumptuous dishes for every body to enjoy and have fellowship.. The Dean, the Very Rev’d Michael Buma Galami said Grace before the parishioners enjoyed the food.
