St. Thomas’ Cathedral Sunday School organized an educational tour to VH Green Nature Park, Matang on 22nd October 2016 in conjunction with International Children’s Day. The adventures included in the program were an organized educational tour, animal feeding and animal petting, and also scattering fertilizer to the vegetable garden.
The group assembled at St. Thomas’ Cathedral Parish Hall by 8.30 am. At 8.45 am, Rev’d Kenny Tan was there to pray for God’s holy protection on the bus journey, for a good tour and fellowship with the tour guides from the Park, good weather and most of all, a wonderful time together.
Some parents joined the outing with their children and the teachers. A total of 87 persons comprising of 49 children and 38 adults started the journey from the Church car park using 2 big buses.
It was a half hour journey from the church to the Park, starting from 9 am and arriving at 9.30 am. We are divided into two groups and tour guides from the park, Hafiz and Alan, were assigned to lead each group. Before the tour started, group photo was taken and the actual tour started at 9.50am.
We were introduced to the Bird Aviary where the parrots, pigeons, turkey and other birds are kept, the Vegetable Plot where the children were introduced to the type of vegetables and how to take care of them, the Herbal Garden where the different type of herbs were planted, the Farm House housing the Balinese Cow, local cow, horses, goats and sheep, porcupines and snake. Then there was the Rabbit House, the Green House, the pond with the beautiful lilies and finally the children enjoyed themselves in the play ground. The weather was sunny and windy.
It was truly a fun day enjoying God’s beautiful creation and appreciating His wonderful nature.
The tour finished at 11.00 am. After resting for half an hour, we set off for lunch at Matang Pezzo Restaurant. We were treated with drinks, fried chicken wings, french fries, tarts and pizza. There was a birthday celebration too with pizza as the birthday cake. After lunch, the children took part in the quiz and were given prize for answering the correct answer. Teacher Natalie asked the questions about the tour and the children had to recall what they saw in the park.
Finally all safely returned to the church by 1.30pm and the teachers waited with the children whose parents came fetching them at 2.00pm as scheduled.
We give thanks and praises to the Lord for the wonderful time and the fellowship we shared with one another.
